A promised land

junio 30th, 2009 § 1 comentario

There’s a feeling that always invade me when I see the blue ocean -the unmistakable sign that I’m close to land- and the first big buildings that welcome me to the United States. It is something I’ve never experienced anywhere else. It’s a mix of peace, happiness and something I cannot describe. I feel that everything one needs to live life without major concerns is in place. I feel that all is right.

Now you may tell me that you feel the same in Colombia and that I’m just a [scary cat] (my cousin’s influence). But there’s always been chaos around me in my home country. The war has invaded all areas of life, political preferences can get you killed, or worse, they can make you hate family members and friends. Infrastructure wise we are a mess, also. Roads are more often than not full of dangerous problems. Corruption makes me doubt of every little procedemnt I have to go through, -from getting good health care to voting-, I feel (and I have seen, so I’m not making this accusattions on just a feeling) that everything is pretty fucked up.

But, those problems are not in my interest (at least not in this post).

What I want is to say that I’ve seen things done right. I’m not talking ’bout goverment or politics, I’m talking about quality of life. Say what you want about the States, but they have managed to Build an organized country, where everything you need to live a nice life is at hand, if you are willing to work for it.

And Colombia can have all this too. We just need to stop the war against ourselves. Remember we are all colmbianos. Hope and peace are laying there, waiting for us to stop the nonsense.
Colombia deserves it.

That is absolutely true, Colombia deserves it, but for that we need people who love their country and work for it, we need people who do that, just to see a better tomorrow
